The last day of the Peace On Earth Hunt and a lovely Room

T’was the month following Christmas, my true love said to me, undeck the halls, and put away the tree! The Peace On Earth Hunt has been amazing!!! Where has the time gone!!! Today is the last day of the hunt and there were over 200 gifts this year…such generosity! While I was out today, hunters were too, some asking if the gifts were still out where I was and of course they were! I wanted to do a final room with some of the POE6 furnishings to show how lovely they looked together. You do not have to limit yourself to having them out only at Christmas time! I was trying to tell a hunter this, and decided the best way was just to show! The POE designers are among the best in Second Life and made high quality gifts for us all to enjoy and most importantly, to use!

Look how well the room flows together..it has such an lovely warm eclectic look!  If you have no money in Second Life for things, to make you feel at home, just look at the designs within this room. There is still some time left before the end of the day to locate these awesome gifts!

I wish to thank you, Sequoia, for caring enough to have this phenomenal annual hunt each year! You work so hard to bring this to the residents of Second Life and make it look effortlessly! You have no idea how many people you actually help, with the Peace On Earth Hunt! Some people come to Second Life who do not have much in real life, and because of you and the fabulous designers, who give generously of their creations and time, allow people to have dignity and a amazing sense of style, with the beautiful clothes, accessories, furniture, homes, home decor, and so many things that have been part of the Peace On Earth Hunts throughout the years that you and they so unselfishly give! From the bottom of my heart I thank you!

A Hero Ain’t Nothin but A Sammich

I know, I know. I completely stole that title from Alice Childress’s 1973 novel for young adults. What can I say, creativity isn’t coming on strong this holiday season. But it seemed perfect for this topic because I’ve learned that sometimes during tragic events a person you would least likely expect to be the hero, is. I talk a lot about how our “us” “them” frame of mind discourages true harmony in our lives. Kind of weird, in this case, I found my own thinking could have been of the “us” sort, in other words, God forbid I am one of “them.” It is known the mall massacre in Nairobi Kenya was taken out by an Al Qaeda-linked Muslim terrorist group, but this isn’t about that story. This is the story of a Christian missionary woman who decided to take her children to the mall to entertain them a few hours.

 

Soon after the family had eaten lunch, the two older boys wandered downstairs to a department store, the mother and three daughters (I believe aged 1,2 and about 5) began to wander down to meet the boys but before getting very far, the shooting started. Taking the natural flight response, she grabbed her girls and hid under a flimsy kiosk and for the next four hours lived with the very real terror of trying to keep her girls silent, worry for her sons, and watching the terrorists walk by shooting any live or injured person they would see. Elsewhere in the mall, a man phoned his brother and asked him to pray for him because a group was violently taking over the mall. I am sure the brother said the prayer, but he also decided to go try to rescue his brother. My bother (yep meant to spell it that way) probably would have watched it unfold on TV and leave the law enforcement to, um, law enforcement.



But this brother, arrived at the mall and as he was set to enter the mall from the parking garage, he received a call from his mall bound brother saying he was out and safe. The thing is, the man could have just backed away, gone to meet his brother, and went home. He chose not to, this brave man, he went in and eventually saved this Christian woman and her daughters.

The take from? I can hate the actions of Al Qaeda as much as the next person, much of what they do seems a senseless waste of innocent life. But this nagging “us” and “them” mentality? Well, it’s good to remember, things aren’t always as they appear. We should always strive to see people by their face value, not senseless labels, because the Hero? The fellow not even at the mall when it was raided? He was Muslim. Just a happy ending to think about, if you have the time on this busy holiday season.

I will probably photograph this dress again relatively soon.  Here’s why.  It’s really cute.  I mean really.  And I struggled with the composition — as I often do — particularly because of the colorfulness in the background.  But I love this location.  It’s the Oubliette sim.  If you haven’t been there you should visit and if you have already, you should visit again and often.  It’s such a gorgeous sim.

Even though my photo skills don’t do this dress justice, trust me that this little LivGlam dress — another POE6 hunt  find — reflects the same level of gorgeousness found in the Oubliette sim.  And the bonus is that this dress comes complete with a HUD to change the skirt and sleeve cuffs into three different colorways.  I show it with two other POE6 items:  a lovely necklace from Kunglers and the lovely and ever-present stockings from Miamai (I find I live in them these days).

If you’re doing the POE6 hunt, you already know it holds many wonderful creations.  If you’re not on the hunt, you should be.  Even though it’s a busy time of year, you’ll want in on these beautiful creations.  And who could blame you.  Not me.  In fact…I called for the taxis:

celebrations. Don’t you wish that real life dresses came with stars and sparkles that dance all around your head?  We should all be allowed to sparkle.

I added some sparkles to Schmelf.  They were pretty powerful.  I saw him fly off up into the air.  I waved goodbye and wiped a tear from my eye.

Oh wait, I just checked my inventory … the sparkles were right next to the giant penis rocket … ooops .. he may be gone for days!  Darn I hate it when that happens.

So much great fashion for us gents on the POE 6 Hunt! Here’s my second post for menswear, it’s well worth hunting 

69 Park Avenue is a well established MensWear shop. Designer, Silexe Core, has given us this winter outfit. Three mesh items – coat, jeans and scarf plus one alpha for the lot. Even socks are included so we don’t get our tootsies frozen!

Dot-Be by designer, BonieFacio Boucher, includes a delightful unpacking animation with his hunt gift which I’m sure will bring a smile to the weary hunter’s face! A great double sleeved shirt here, with the peace logo on it. Very useful wardrobe item. I used the L size from the 5 standard sizes. (watch by Robbish)

Orquidea by adriannesuz McMinnar is a vintage and modern clothing provider which I’m ashamed to say I haven’t come across until now. The hunt gift is a smashing set of clothing layer basic rib knit sweaters in black, chocolate and dark red. There’s a tattoo layer included to prevent any imperfections in the clothing layers – excellent.  You’ll get a lot of wear out of these beauties. On top of the sweater is NerdMonkey’s gift – an extensive set of winter fisherman’s rib knit scarves. Extremely easy to stretch to size, the colours include black, cyan, pink, red and yellow. I’ll be using these a lot! (Sunday Jeans in black by by sf design, hair [monso] Jay in black/brown)

Citrus by SissyMo Morrison’s gift is this great double sleeve tshirt and low chucks which are great for tight jeans and shorts as worn here. The tshirt is the standard 5 sizes, I took size L, and the chucks have a resizer with delete option. I loved the Peace texturing on this set  I’m also wearing the Clinton Flatcap which is part of Xen’s Hats hunt gift. This stylish hat has a resizer with delete option – brilliant!

I loved this hathair by ChiChickie! Hair Salon. So many textures, both for the hat and the hair via a HUD that also had a tinting facility on it. A really useful and versatile gift here.  A chic Mesh shirt/jacket combo isB&W’s hunt gift. Designer, Ayrton Radikal, gives us consistantly good work and this gift is no exception. The gift is offered in the standard 5 mesh sizes, I took a size L here, and Ayrton includes a notecard with recommended sizing for a perfect fit. The cute Japanese ‘Peace and Love’ bag comes in tan and blue canvas shades and includes a ‘hold bag’ animation that doesn’t override whatever else you have on. Wonderful and thank you, designer Uklea of LavandaChic.  (winter jeans in bone by GlamDammit)

All poses except for the Tuxedo ones are by the lovely Wicca Merlin for Wicca’s Wardrobe. A new set coming up – ‘Gravity’ and an older set, ‘Redneck at Work’ are featured. Wicca knows what poses work for bloggers and models alike! Don’t forget to collect the ‘Angelic’ poses in the POE6 hunt gift.

Now, two smart suits. We’re all going to need at least one of these in our SL lives, both for our own formal functions and also to attend our friend’s special occasions! The first one is the hunt gift of Innuendo Italian Style. By designer, Francesca Bonetto, this classic Italian tuxedo suit comes in one complete Mesh piece and one alpha so it couldn’t be easier or quicker to dress up! Click, click and you’re ready  The little Christmas Tree brooch is by GDit Jewelry and is texture change for 4 useful metals. Moz slaved over this (lol) so go and get it! (hair Scott 02 by UncleWeb Studio, sf design Emilo shoes)

Second suit by Allie Munro of Grumble. Allie gives us a charcoal jacket and pants plus a shirt and tie combo. These are separates in the standard 5 sizes and fit nicely. I like to wear a size M shirt with a size L jacket over the top and a size M pants underneath. That seems to work really well as far as fitting goes. A great suit – thank you, Allie
